here are some teaching and technical notes

  • PROBLEM - it's taking ages to load
SOLUTION - the first time you use a course, the extra content in this version will take a minute to load into a cache. The menus are cached locally so that they load fast next time.
  • PROBLEM - is the website down?
SOLUTION -  This little graphic tells us and you when the server is and was accessible Website monitoring service Host-tracker.com Do contact us the moment you see a problem.
  • PROBLEM - the browser says it's not secure
SOLUTION - there is no risk whatsoever as nothing of importance is transmitted and the website has no user data
  • PROBLEM - can I just get in without typing my password each time?
SOLUTION - let your browser remember the password. You can stay logged in for ages
  • PROBLEM - can I use Firefox or Chrome or a Mac?
SOLUTION - Yes, this version works on browsers that use the ruffle extension. You no longer need Java or Adobe Flash. You can use an extension called Flash 2021 however this doesn't activate the 3D models so we suggest to use the Ruffle extension. You may be luckier than I using Ruffle on Safari which in theory is said to work.
  • PROBLEM - I've forgotten my password / want to change my password
SOLUTION - if you're a teacher contact us.
  • PROBLEM - I signed in, but where is the animation?
SOLUTION - the window with the animation has probably gone to the back. Otherwise, did you allow pop-ups from the site we sent you to?
  • PROBLEM - can I use the animation on iPad, IOS and Android
SOLUTION - yes, get the Flash-emulators in Dolphin, Flashfox, Puffin or Photon app from the App store or Google Play. We made the animation for bigger screens so now and then it's tricky to click the bit you need on a phone - a tablet stylus may help.

Teaching about the alkanes using Roger Frost's Organic Chemistry

Talking about the alkanes in a course on organic chemistry at age 15+. This sample is one of 250 multimedia slides for teaching and learning in RFOC. The animation comes to you via a login to a web site (Windows or OS X).  We now use the new and slightly different JsMol 3D models, which pop-out instead of as here.

Teaching about DNA using Roger Frost's Organic Chemistry

Talking about DNA in a course on organic chemistry at age 15+. This video uses five of  250 multimedia slides for teaching and learning in RFOC. The animation comes to you via a login to a web site (Windows or OS X).  We now use the new and slightly different JsMol 3D models, which pop-out instead of as here.

Behind the Organic Chemistry animation

In this video, author Roger Frost describes how subtle design tweaks make this animation clearer to use and learn from. The animation is made as interchangeable units each lasting up to a couple of minutes so we can sort them for different courses. You will easily find the bit you need and can use it more flexibly than having a whole topic on one page. Of course you can play the bits, one after the other to cover your topic.

The animation is an online app available for 24/7 use via an Internet login. Most 'Flash-capable' mobile apps let you use Android and Apple IOS devices. You can use a phone but a tablet size better shows the detail.
